Faculty help first-year residents form connections through mentorship program
Since 2023, the UW Department of Radiology has matched each first-year resident with a faculty member through the Resident Mentorship Program. Faculty members help the new residents navigate their new role, provide support throughout their training, and share insight from their own experiences.
Mentors also facilitate residents forming connections in the department by introducing their mentee at a faculty meeting and sharing fun facts like hobbies, favorite movies, and career goals with the broader group of faculty members. Often, this sparks conversations between faculty and residents who have common interests while they are working together in the reading rooms.
In addition to the benefits to the residents, faculty members enjoy volunteering for the program, finding a sense of fulfillment.
