Pediatric Radiology Fellowship
It is our great delight to announce the inaugural application season for our 12-month fellowship in Pediatric Radiology at the American Family Children’s Hospital supported by the Department of Radiology.
As a fellow, you will work our experienced pediatric radiologists who are highly dedicated to excellence in both the care of children through specialized pediatric imaging and to the education of our diagnostic radiology trainees. Currently, there is a dire shortage of pediatric radiologists across our country, and we aim to enable our radiology trainees to develop subspecialized skills in multi-modality imaging care for our community’s pediatric patients with the highest degree of compassion and professionalism.
Clinical training within our section utilizes radiography, fluoroscopy, computed tomography, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging in the diagnosis of a wide spectrum of acute and chronic illnesses, seen in both the outpatient and inpatient settings. Our referring physicians include prenatal care specialists, general and subspecialty pediatricians, and general and subspecialty pediatric surgeons.
Imaging exams including all imaging modalities and all body systems for the fetus through the teenage years into young adulthood. As a fellow, you will also rotate through our other subspecialty sections to gain experience in additional pediatric advanced imaging, such as sports medicine, nuclear medicine, cardiovascular imaging and neuroradiology.

Program Highlights

Pediatric Radiology
As a fellow, you’ll play a key role in the Pediatric Radiology section. Our faculty members engage in a practice that spans all imaging modalities and helps young patients beyond the UW Hospital. Teleradiology and outreach programs enable participation in the imaging of children at hospitals and imaging centers throughout Madison as well as across southern and central Wisconsin.
The section is a large contributor to resident and medical student education, research, and charitable and social causes in the Department of Radiology. The section is closely affiliated with the American Family Children’s Hospital and is dedicated to supporting the hospital’s excellent subspecialty pediatric physicians and their patients.

Research Opportunities
Zachary Clark Radiology Research Symposium
Held in spring, the annual symposium celebrates the high-caliber radiology research conducted by our fellows, residents, and medical students.
Our internationally renowned research programs are shining embodiments of discovery. Our department played a pivotal role in earning the Wisconsin Biohealth Tech Hub designation and is on the forefront of the transformative work it funds. Our research programs and labs are innovating in such areas as machine learning, ablation and molecular imaging. Our collaboration with industry means we’re helping to build tomorrow’s technology through efforts such as evaluating GE HealthCare’s photon counting CT scanner. Our resources provide support in statistics, IRB, grant administration and study coordination.
A key element of our research efforts is partnering with our clinical enterprise to accelerate translation of discoveries into widespread clinical practice.
From helping with the research to presenting it on the national stage, opportunities to engage in research abound for fellows!
