Giuseppe Toia, MD, MS

Biography

Giuseppe V. Toia, MD, MS is an associate professor of radiology and medical physics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He serves as the Abdominal Imaging and Intervention Section chief and modality chief of computed tomography (CT), where he leads clinical operations, quality improvement initiatives, and the implementation of advanced CT technologies across the health system. He also serves as medical director of the CT Education and Collaboration Collective (CTECC), fostering collaboration among radiologists, technologists, physicists, nurses, and industry partners to advance CT practice and education.

Dr. Toia specializes in abdominal imaging and intervention. He has particular interest in genitourinary imaging, pelvic floor dysfunction, prostate imaging, abdominal oncology, and image-guided interventions. His clinical and research interests center on advancing computed tomography through photon-counting CT, spectral and multi-energy CT, quantitative imaging biomarkers, CT workflow optimization, artificial intelligence, and radiology physics. His research has contributed to the development and clinical translation of emerging CT technologies, with numerous peer-reviewed publications focused on image quality, quantitative imaging, workflow innovation, and novel CT applications.

An active clinician-scientist and educator, Dr. Toia is committed to improving diagnostic imaging through multidisciplinary collaboration, innovation, and education. He has received multiple national research and teaching awards, serves as a reviewer for several leading radiology journals, and is an invited speaker on advanced CT technologies, workflow optimization, and abdominal imaging. Through his clinical practice, research, and leadership, he strives to improve patient care while advancing the field of abdominal imaging.

Dr. Toia is a Chicago native and enjoys outdoor activities with his wife and dogs. He is a musician (piano, keyboard/synth, bass guitar) and tabletop game enthusiast.
