Faculty Spotlight: Cary Squires
Cary Squires, MD joined the Emergency Radiology Section as a clinical associate professor in September 2026.
Most recently, Dr. Squires was an adjunct assistant professor at Southern Illinois University. Prior to that, he spent five years as an assistant professor in the Cardiothoracic and Emergency Radiology Departments, as well as director of the cardiothoracic radiology fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Where are you from?
Originally from Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Why did you choose radiology?
Radiology, while being a specialty in itself, allows me to continue to be exposed to and involved in broad spectrum of medicine. I initially had a hard time choosing exactly what I wanted to do but once I found radiology, I knew it was perfect for me.
What are your professional interests?
My professional interests include emergency and cardiothoracic radiology, as well as resident education and curriculum development.
Why did you choose to work at UW–Madison?
Several people I have worked with spanning from medical school, residency and my first job now work at UW, and they all love it. The breadth of case complexity and academic setting were also draws.
What are your hobbies?
Traveling, eating well, trying new foods and restaurants, reading, playing and watching various sports, including rugby and rock climbing. Attempting to learn how to golf.
