Biography
David A. Bluemke, MD, MSB, PhD joined the department in July 2017 as a professor (CHS) in the Thoracic Imaging and Cardiovascular Imaging Sections. He comes to the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health from the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD, where he was radiologist-in-chief at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center, tenured senior investigator at the NIH National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering and Clinical Center, and adjunct senior investigator at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.
Prior to that, Dr. Bluemke was Professor of Radiology and Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. A native of Brookfield, WI, Dr. Bluemke completed his medical degree at the University of Chicago Medical School, Chicago, IL and his PhD in Biophysics also at the University of Chicago. He completed his residency, fellowship, and master of science in business at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. He has authored more than 800 publications in the areas of diagnostic radiology and cardiovascular disease, including his work as principal investigator for MRI studies in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA). He is the Editor Emeritus of the journal Radiology, the field’s most prominent scholarly journal.
