Breast Imaging and Intervention Equipment

The Breast Imaging facility is located in the Breast Center at University Hospital. Our high volume practice with a multi-disciplinary approach uses full-field digital imaging. The Selenia® Dimensions® (Hologic) mammography units along with computer aided detection (CAD) software allow state of the art technology for our patients. Digital mammography, digital breast tomosynthesis, ultrasound, ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy, stereotactic biopsy, breast MRI, MRI-guided core needle biopsies, and image-guided needle localizations are performed. Additional screening mammography clinics and breast MRI imaging centers transmit their imaging to the UW Breast Center for interpretation.

UW Health uses electronic medical records (Epic). All imaging is reviewed using McKesson Horizon PACS.  The breast imaging section is entirely filmless, with current imaging via digital technology and older screen-film comparisons scanned into PACS. All reporting is via a dedicating mammographic information system (PenRad™). Radiology-pathology concordance is determined by consensus and a multidisciplinary conference, and results and recommendations are integrated into PenRad, allowing performance statistics, audit data, exam tracking, and data warehousing.

The Breast Imaging Section is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment including:
