Biography

Jonathan O. Swanson, MD joined the department in October 2019 as a professor (CHS) in the Pediatric Radiology Section. He joins the faculty of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health from his position of associate professor and Section Chief of Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Washington School of Medicine and Seattle Children’s Hospital, Seattle, WA, where he served as President Elect of the medical staff. A native of Wisconsin, Dr. Swanson received his undergraduate degree at Duke University, Durham, NC, majoring in biology. He completed his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Swanson completed his postgraduate work in Seattle, WA, completing an internship at Virginia Mason Medical Center, and his residency and fellowship in pediatric radiology at the University of Washington Medical School and Seattle Children’s Hospital, respectively. He has authored numerous publications and book chapters in the areas of pediatric radiology and the clinical practice of medicine, and has been awarded grant support for multiple national and international radiological research projects. Dr. Swanson’s special clinical interests include pediatric thoracic imaging, radiology interventions in global health, radiology education, and enhancing radiology’s role in patient care.
