Education

The Pediatric Imaging section is intensely active in the education of medical students, radiology residents, and trainees from a broad range of referring services. Resident education is an important focus, and the chief of pediatric radiology is an active member of the resident education committee. Pediatric Radiology teaching includes a didactic lecture series, case conferences, daily “viewbox” teaching on the clinical services, reading room “mini-lectures” and a comprehensive oral boards review case conference series. The pediatric digital teaching file, just started in 2009, is already one of the largest public teaching files on the UW PACS system. This teaching file is used to enhance teaching in the reading room, provide case material for resident lectures and images for department publications. Pediatric radiologists serve as mentors for radiology residents and medical students for poster presentations at RSNA and subspecialty meetings as well as peer reviewed publications. Pediatric radiologists are co-investigators on projects researching pediatric conditions including cystic fibrosis and short gut syndrome.
