Interventional Radiology and Abdominal Imaging and Intervention Shine at WCIO

Posted on Aug 4, 2017

The Interventional Radiology and Abdominal Imaging and Intervention sections had another remarkable year at the annual World Congress of Interventional Oncology (WCIO). The conference took place in Boston, MA from June 8-11 and was the first WCIO meeting following the formation earlier this year of the Society of Interventional Oncology.

In total, four of the 40 oral presentations at the event and 14 of the 108 posters displayed were created by participants from the University of Wisconsin. Eight residents, three clinical fellows, and five research fellows presented or had posters displayed. Shapiro summer 2016 medical student Jeanette Comstock won a Top 5 poster award for her poster titled, “Clinical Outcomes of Percutaneous Microwave Ablation for Hepatic Colorectal Metastasis with a Modern Generation System.” Comstock was mentored by Dr. Tim Ziemlewicz and the tumor ablation team, Drs. Meghan Lubner, Shane Wells, Fred Lee Jr., and Louis Hinshaw. Lee also contributed to the poster, “Underlying Mechanisms of Histotripsy - A Novel Noninvasive Image-guided Focused Ultrasound Tumor Ablation Modality,” authored by Dr. Zhen Xu of the University of Michigan which won a Top 5 award at the conference.
