NIH-NCI Awards $1.2M to Dr. Brace for Ablation Research

Chris Brace, PhD, Assistant Professor in Radiology and Biomedical Engineering, was awarded approximately $1.2M by the NIH-NCI for his R01 proposal "Periodic Contrast-Enhanced CT With HYPR Reconstruction For Ablation Monitoring." Adoption of thermal ablation technologies may suffer without a reliable method to observe ablation zone growth. This project aims to develop an ablation monitoring technique using a series of contrast-enhanced CT scans acquired intra-procedurally. X-ray and contrast doses will be reduced in each scan so that their accumulated amounts are less than a typical contrast-enhanced CT. HYPR will be used to recapture the image quality lost in each low-dose scan. Key personnel and collaborators include Louis Hinshaw, MD, Meghan Lubner, MD, Charles Mistretta, PhD, and Fred T. Lee Jr., MD.
