He was chosen as an exceptional individual with high promise in the field of biomedical research. As the recipient, Dr. Poonawalla will be able to pursue specialized training in an area of science he is passionate about. He is an original alumnus of UW-Madison, graduating with his BSc in Physics, Math and Astronomy in 1995, After two years working for Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington, MA, he moved to Houston for graduate study, obtaining his Masters and PhD in Medical Physics at MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2005. Upon completing his doctorate, Dr. Poonawalla undertook a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston. In 2007, he moved to Wisconsin with his family and engaged in self-directed research, serving as an adjunct Associate Professor at UT.
