Dr. Alex Frydrychowicz is a Visiting Assistant Professor in Magnetic Resonance Imaging who has a scientific assignment with the Department of Radiology from 2009-2011.
During Medical School Dr. Frydrychowicz developed an early interest in Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging. From 1999-2003 he did his MD thesis on murine cardiovascular MRI at 7.05T establishing murine right ventricular volumetry and the evaluation of models of right ventricular failure.
Before entering residency at Freiburg University Hospital, he spent clinical trimesters at the John Radcliffe Hospital (Oxford, UK) and the University Hospital Zurich (Zurich, Switzerland). After an initial year in the Department of Cardiology and Angiology in 2003 he started his training in Radiology in 2004 and received his board certification in 2009.
Next to his clinical training, his scientific efforts aimed to establish time-resolved 3-dimensional MR flow acquisitions, the visualization of blood flow dynamics and calculation of derived vessel wall parameters. He has authored and co-authored more than 40 peer-reviewed scientific publications and received national prizes for his work. He serves as a peer-reviewer for scientific journals and acts as the Secretary of the Flow & Motion Study Group of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance.
