Dr. Fred Lee, Jr. is a Professor of Radiology, The Robert A. Turrel Professor of Imaging Science, and was the chief of the abdominal imaging division from 1998-2007. In 2007 he was appointed as Senior Vice Chair of the Department of Radiology with primary responsibility for the clinical service. He has been a University of Wisconsin faculty member since 1991, was designated as a GE/Radiologic Society of North America Scholar in 1996, and and was the chief of abdominal imaging division between 1998-2007 prior to being appointed as the department senior vice chair in 2007.

While completing the requirements for the GE/RSNA Scholars program, Dr. Lee developed an interest in minimally invasive tumor ablation therapy. As an early pioneer in this field, he established the tumor ablation laboratory at Wisconsin in 1995, and his work has resulted in over 100 scientific publications, 6 book chapters, 26 major awards, 10 patents, and substantial federal and industrial grant support. In addition, Dr. Lee is a founding member of the International Working Group on Tumor Ablation, and a founding member of two biotech start-up companies devoted to cancer treatment, Cellectar, LLC, and Micrablate, LLC, both located in Madison, WI.
